A Conformation Sanction Match with Belleville and District K.C., Judge: Shelley McHugh. No scoresheets are used in this type of competition, it is a process of elimination for the best one dog of each Breed.
We offer an introductory course with a six week outline .... the basic commands which comprise the Companion Dog Exercises. These exercises are all very useful in the day to day life with your Canine Companion. "Come, Heel, Sit, Stand, Stay, Down and Finish". The Novice Course is for the handler who already understands the exercises, to polish up their off leash work and repeat each exercise with distractions to get them working and attentive under any conditions. The next level up would be to begin to introduce the work needed for Open Work .... which is all off leash, involves leaving the handler to cross a room and come back over directed jumps. Retrieval is a part of this level, which is not instinctive to my Collies, so I have not had a whole bunch of opportunity to compete myself at this level >>> only one of my own dogs have I taken all the way up to the Utility exercises .... but I have instructor assisted under Jean Bruce and fully understand the exercises and also with Betty McHugh. "Go Out" .... "Recall with a Drop on Command" .... "Signal Exercises" which is all silent with hand signals. It is really wonderful work which so enhances your realtionship with your pet. The dogs really love to develop this close relationship with the Human Friend .... enrich your bond and COME TRAIN WITH US!!
The Conformation Show Handling is a different type of competition altogether. The Handling classes is an excellent way to introduce collar and leash and working around other dogs and being handled by an instructor/judge or veterinarian. There is a lot less memory work and we focus on the dogs attentiveness to the handler and to move in an organized fashion among other dogs. It is a great place to start any young dog toward being an enjoyable and manageable companion.
A Novice Scoresheet for CKC Trial Judging towards title: Companion Dog. A "Qualifying Score" equals 170 or more out of a possible 200, with over half on each exercise. Three "legs" as they call them, or qualifying scores, gives you your first level CKC Obedience Title.
On the Tokencollies.piczo site, on the page "Table of Contents", you can find a detailed description of the different titles, their short forms, and what is required to qualify for them. Also the short forms for various awards, and what they mean.

This is an Obedience Fun Match ... or sometimes they can be a "Correction Match", where you are allowed to correct or praise in the ring .... which is not permitted at Trials. This Match was at Ottawa last fall the Show of Shows Wkd.
These pictures are of "Fiddle" (at 12) practising his Heel on Leash, and also on the left is a Group Exercise, the Long Down. There was also an off leash heel which he passed. For the Long Down Exercise, the handlers leave the dogs for a 3 minute down, stay. There is also a sit stay for one minute done in a group. Once you go up to Open Competition, the next level up, the handlers actually leave the ring and go out of sight for these group exercises. And all of the exercises are off leash, not just the heel, recall and stays as we have at the first level. This is for a Companion Dog Title.
